Trip to Antique Rose Emporium

Seeing how April was a lot different than what we had planned, I have a lot of catching up to do on this site! I just downloaded over a months worth of pictures yesterday and I'll be posting some of them with time, along with my thoughts the past month...

I believe it was the weekend before Easter, Nadine and I got to head to Brenham to visit the Antique Rose Emporium! While I have thoroughly enjoyed learning to garden the past couple of years, realistically I new that I probably wouldn't be able to do much of it this spring and summer given the situation. So instead of trying to get started and putting pressure on Jason to do the upkeep, I decided my goal would be to fill our flower beds with 'flowering bushes' and such to 'hide the weeds' and look consistently pretty so to speak without all the constant attention other types of gardening requires. So I thought I'd try my hand at some of the best rose bushes out there.

We had a great time and saw so many beautiful flowers! I ended up buying 7 rose bushes! All of which have continual and fragrant blooms! I brought them home and we were going to plant them... but then egg retrieval didn't happen as we expected and 2 trips to the hospital, etc prevent them from being planted or watered well :( Jason ended up planting them a couple of weeks ago and then this past weekend we worked on the back yard some. It's not perfect, but it is looking so much better and will be wonderful this summer. I'm happy to say that 5 out of my 7 bushes are doing well and I even have a bloom on one right now!

Here is what they were supposed to look like:

Here was my first bloom before I had my egg retrieval!

This is where the rose bushes are now (you can't see them well though), as well as the new plants we had to buy to replace the ones that died with the freezes this past winter.

Here are some shots of our backyard and the other new plants or new growth to old plants that 'died' this past winter too.
